Ukraine and Netherlands press Spain to get Patriot battery
Spain has two Patriot batteries, one in Spain and one in Turkey.
This was reported by the newspaper El Pais.
The Netherlands, together with Ukraine, are trying to put pressure on Spain to join the Patriot coalition. And then provide Ukraine with a Patriot battery.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already spoken to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez about this.
Spain has two batteries: one has been at Turkey's Incirlik base since 2015. The second is in the autonomous community of Valencia in eastern Spain and is important for national defence.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has already discussed with Turkish President Recep Tayyip the transfer of the Spanish battery to Ukraine. Erdogan does not want to hand over the Patriot from his country before the end of the relevant contract, which expires at the end of this year.
