The article states that scientists, in search of an anti-cancer agent, investigated the role of nutrition in patients genetically predisposed to cancer. In doing so, they found that a regular dose of resistant starch, also known as fermented fiber, taken for an average of two years reduced the incidence of cancer.
Speaking about the results of the study, they emphasized that such a diet would be especially useful for cancers of the upper gastrointestinal tract, stomach, biliary tract, pancreas and duodenum. The effect of taking resistant starch lasted for 10 years after the supplement was discontinued.
Experts noted that the substance is produced by the human body itself, but it can also be found in products. For example, resistant starch is found in: durum pasta, rice, legumes, oats, and unripe bananas.
Resistant starch may reduce the risk of cancer by altering the bacterial metabolism of bile acids and reducing the amount of bile acids that can damage DNA and cause cancer, according to the study.
It is known that oncology remains one of the main causes of human mortality. Thus, every year the disease takes the lives of 10 million people in the world. By 2030, according to experts, the death rate from cancer will increase to 13 million people. At the same time, WHO warns that one in five men and one in six women in the world are at risk of getting a malignant tumor during their lifetime.
The top ten countries with the highest prevalence of cancer are: Australia, New Zealand, Hungary, Ireland, USA, Belgium, France, Denmark, Norway.
However, according to experts, the main causes of cancer are quite preventable - you need to exercise more, give up unhealthy foods, processed foods and smoking, reduce alcohol consumption, and also maintain a positive mindset.
