Police explosive technicians in Sumy region have destroyed the warhead of a Russian cruise missile.

In Sumy region, the police received a report about an enemy missile that fell on a field near a village in Sumy district and did not explode. About it reports the communication department of the police of Sumy region.

The mobile group of the department of explosive technical service of the National Police in Sumy region went to the place of fall to identify, seize and destroy an extremely dangerous shell. Arriving at the site, the police noticed damaged soil in the field and large metal fragments around.

After examining them, experts concluded that these were the remains of a Russian Kh-32 air-to-surface cruise missile, which the Russians continue to use to strike Ukraine," police said.

After falling, the missile collapsed, its fuel burned out, but the warhead did not explode. To get it out of the ground, sappers used special equipment.

Since the detonation of such a powerful explosive object could cause debris to fly hundreds of metres, it was decided to detonate the warhead by taking it to a safe place and digging it into the ground.

For this purpose, a deep trench was dug mechanised, the missile's warhead was placed in it and it was destroyed with the help of a superimposed explosive charge by electro-detonation," the police said.

After the powerful explosion, a crater eighteen metres in diameter and about seven metres deep appeared in the soil, and debris and soil were scattered over half a kilometre away.
