- The war against the Russian invasion was officially called the War of Independence

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has strengthened the legislative basis for historical memory.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed the law on national memory, which for the first time officially fixed the name of Ukraine's war against Russian occupiers - the "War for Ukraine's Independence".
The date of the war's start is set as 19 February 2014 - the day when Russia launched its invasion of Crimea.
The document emphasises that the war is a direct consequence of the Russian Federation's imperial policy aimed at destroying Ukrainian statehood and identity.
Quoting from the law: "The war for the Independence of Ukraine is a struggle for the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine against the aggression of the Russian Federation, which began on 19 February 2014."
Also on 29 August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law on national memory approved by parliament a week earlier. Among the key provisions of the document is the official definition of "Rashism" as a hybrid form of totalitarian ideology.
