Among the civilians killed and tortured by the occupiers in Kharkivshchyna was children's writer Volodymyr Vakulenko.



Police have announced suspicion of Russian military officers who tortured and killed civilians in Kharkiv Region. Among those killed was children's writer Volodymyr Vakulenko. About it reports the national police.

33-year-old company commander of the regiment of the regiment of the mobilisation reserve "LNR" of the southern military District of the Armed forces of the Russian Federation with the call sign "Lev" and his subordinates deprived freedom, tortured and killed civilians in the village of Kapitolovka, - reported in the police.

The occupiers tried to "persuade" the 49-year-old writer to change his pro-Ukrainian stance. Numerous searches were conducted in his house, in front of his 14-year-old disabled son the man was beaten, shot with a gun at his feet.

on 24 March 2022, the occupants broke into the writer's house, took him to the place of their deployment and on the order of the commander, a serviceman killed the man with three shots from a Makarov pistol. Subsequently, the body of the deceased was found in a ditch.

On the basis of collected irrefutable evidence, investigators of the investigation department under the procedural guidance of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reported suspicion of the two occupants under part 2 of article 27, part 1, 2 of article 28, part 1, 2 of article 438 (violation of laws and customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The article provides for up to 15 years or life imprisonment.
