The influence of the culture of the 90s on modern fashion trends: retro elements in the wardrobe

Fashion is always about cyclicality. Trends return, changing only the context and presentation.
Today we see the culture of the 90s becoming relevant again. You can now hear familiar slang words, see recognisable styles of clothing and even feel the same mood that reigned over thirty years ago.
Why the 90s?
the 90's was a time of experimentation, freedom of expression and a mix of styles. During that period, cult trends like "grunge", "hip-hop style" and "sport-chic" were born. Who doesn't remember (if you don't, ask around!) the wide jeans, bomber jackets or T-shirts with big logos? These are the elements that have become trendy again.

In addition to style, the 90s left its mark on culture and music. Cassette players, the first mobile phones, TV series like Beverly Gills, 90210 all influenced fashion. Kids of the time aspired to look like MTV stars, and that style is now back in the spotlight.
Retro elements are making a comeback
Mom jeans are tall, slightly loose, and have rolled up trousers. They're easy to find not only in modern shops, but also second hand or in your mum's wardrobe.

Bomber jackets - brightly coloured, with patches or monochrome, they go well with both jeans and skirts.

Flannel shirts are a must-have for grunge style. They can be worn on top of a t-shirt, tank top, tied at the waist or simply as a light jacket.

Platforms and solid shoes - the popularity of Dr. Martens, Buffalo and similar models signals the return of this trend.

Bright accessories - hoops, crocodile hairpins, chokers, sunglasses in the style of "tiny sunglasses".

Even the 'heroin chic' style made popular by Kate Moss is making a comeback in the form of understated makeup, straight silhouettes and minimalist colours.

How to integrate 90s style into a modern wardrobe
You don't have to completely immerse yourself in retro. A few accents are enough to freshen up the look. For example, you can combine mom jeans with a basic T-shirt and a bomber. Or add 90's style accessories to a modern look.
Tip: Don't be afraid of second hand shops. There you can find original things at an affordable price.
Why is it relevant now?
The fashion world is going back to the 90s not only because of nostalgia, but also because of the desire for self-expression and comfort. Mom jeans are comfortable, bombers are versatile, and accessories add playfulness.
You don't need to spend a significant amount of money to find such things. It's enough to look in your parents' wardrobe, look through family albums or search old fashion magazines. Brands such as Levi's, Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger have long brought back their iconic collections.

90s fashion is not only a trend, but also a way to express yourself by mixing comfort, style and a bit of nostalgia. We recommend looking at retro elements, experimenting and creating unique looks, because fashion is always about you and your individuality.
