The heroes of the Heavenly Hundred changed the course of Ukrainian history and showed the world that Ukrainians are ready to fight for their freedom.

Ukraine is marking the tenth anniversary of the tragic events on Independence Square in Kyiv, when the first heroes died. This year, the Day of Remembrance of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred is held under the slogan "We remain worthy of our heroes". A selection of photos from 2014 was prepared by Ukrinform.

Photo correspondents recorded the course of events on Maidan from 18 to 20 February 2014. It was during these days during the Revolution of Dignity that the confrontation between the Ukrainian people and the Yanukovych regime reached its peak.

At that time, 78 people died at the hands of security forces, and on 20 February, more than 20 more protesters died from injuries. All of them were included in the memorial of the fighters - the Heavenly Hundred.

The Pantheon of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred began with the deaths of Serhiy Nigoyan, Roman Senik and Mykhailo Zhiznevskyi, who died as a result of a violent confrontation on Hrushevskyi Street on 22 January, and Yuriy Verbitskyi, who was kidnapped from a hospital by so-called titushki, beaten and left without clothes in a forest belt near Kyiv.

on 18 February, on the side of Institutska Street, Berkut and police completely surrounded the government quarter in Kyiv and blocked Hrushevskyy Street with large trucks. The activists managed to break through one of the police cordons at the intersection of Hrushevskogo Street and Krepostny Lane.

The heroes of the Heavenly Hundred changed the course of our country's history and showed the world that Ukrainians are ready to fight for their freedom.
