Video footage of Shoigu was published today by the Zvezda TV channel. Russian war corrs say it's "conservative".

Shoigu has been spotted for the first time since Prigozhin's military riot and this could mean he will retain his post, the Agency reports.

Pro-Russian military telegram channel Rybar suggests that the Zvezda TV channel's video is so-called "canned" footage (footage made in advance and published later, as if it had been taken recently). "Rybar" is confident that the footage was made before Prigozhin's mutiny began. In its argument, the channel cites information from military blogger Boris Rozhin, who reported on Friday about Shoigu's visit to the Belgorod region.

In favour of the recording being "conservative", the video's audio is also muted.

Michael McFaul, the former US ambassador to Russia, said on Twitter that the appearance of the video of Shoigu was "confirmation that he is not going to be fired". "At least for now," he added in another post. Yaroslav Trofimov, chief foreign affairs correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, expresses the same view.

The footage shows Yevgeny Nikiforov and Mikhail Zusko with Shoigu, which, as military analyst Rob Lee notes, indicates that they continue to hold the posts of commander and chief of staff of the Western Military District.

The Russian security services threatened the families of Wagner PMC leaders before Yevgeny Prigozhin decided to stop the insurgency, The Telegraph reported, citing sources in the British security services.

Prigozhin stopped recording his audio messages and appearing on video on Saturday night after his decision to end the riot became known. His press office said on Sunday that "he sends his regards to everyone and will respond when he has normal communications again".

A day after the "settlement":

  1. Putin has not made an official statement or addressed citizens. His current whereabouts are unknown.

  2. Lukashenko was the last person to speak to the public. This happened twenty-four hours ago, and he appears to have "resolved" the situation.

  3. Since the incident began, the whereabouts of Shoigu and Gerasimov remain unknown (apart from the video mentioned above).

  4. Currently, the status of Prigozhin, Utkin and all the other participants in the "March on Moscow" is unclear. Evidence of the massacre of the Wagners is appearing online. Convicts in Ukraine appealed to Prigozhin yesterday, saying they were "pressed and put out" and that Prigozhin himself would not be forgiven by "good people".

  5. The fate of the heavy military equipment possessed by the Wagner PMC also remains unclear. According to the information obtained by The Telegraph, Putin will now try to integrate the fighters of the Wagner group into the Russian army, eliminating the former leaders of the PMC in the process.

  6. The criminal case against Prigozhin has not been closed, despite this condition in the agreement made public by the Kremlin on Saturday, after which the armed uprising was ended. Sources from Kommersant, RIA Novosti and TASS confirmed this.

Andrei Gurulev, a Duma deputy, member of the Defence Committee and former deputy commander of the troops of the Southern Military District, said on Vladimir Solovyov's programme that "in wartime, traitors must be eliminated. A bullet in the forehead is the only salvation for Prigozhin too." He also said that the Wagnerians would "one hundred per cent" face punishment because "our servicemen" had died.
