The American Educational Testing Service has banned Russian citizens from registering for an English exam in Russia.

The Russian edition of Mediazona writes about this.

Citizens of Russia began to complain about the inability to register for the TOEFL exam. Also, citizens of the Russian Federation could not send, to universities, the results of an already passed test. The resource support service reported that in connection with the requirement of the US Department of the Treasury, residents and citizens of the DPRK and Russia are prohibited from signing up for exams or creating accounts.

On March 10, ETS suspended TOEFL English exams in Russia and Belarus due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. IELTS and TOEFL are the most popular English language exams for applicants to foreign universities. After they were forbidden to take them on the territory of Russia, citizens of the country began to travel to take them abroad.

Later, the Russian media began to publish information that from the information from the organizers, Russian citizens will be allowed to take the TOEFL English exam in a remote format from August 4 or outside their native country.

Starting August 4, ETS is amending its March 2022 policy to allow test takers in Russia and Belarus to register for the TOEFL iBT Home Edition, TOEFL Essentials and GRE Home Edition unless they have any financial barriers to doing so , according to ETS.
