Rheinmetall to build ammunition plant in Ukraine

Ammunition production in Ukraine is planned to start within 24 months.
The Rheinmetall company has received its first important order from the Ukrainian government for the construction of an ammunition production plant in Ukraine. This is reported by Rheinmetall.
The order for the Rheinmetall Technology Group from Düsseldorf includes the complete technical equipment of the plant up to its commissioning.
It is expected that construction will start in a short time and will be completed within a few years.
Ammunition production in Ukraine is planned to start within 24 months. Together with the Ukrainian joint venture partner, Rheinmetall will be responsible for the operation of the plant.
We are putting our words into action and will establish a Ukrainian ammunition competence centre together with our partner. This order emphasises the trust in Rheinmetall's expertise and production capacity. We are grateful that we can support the country in its reindustrialisation and strengthening of its defence capability," said Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG.
Measures are currently being taken in Ukraine to prepare the necessary infrastructure. In the near future, a joint venture between Rheinmetall and a Ukrainian state-owned company will be set up to operate an ammunition plant.
This was announced during a side discussion at the Munich Security Conference in February 2024.
In June 2024, Rheinmetall AG CEO Armin Papperger and Ukraine's Minister of Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshyn signed an agreement to expand strategic co-operation at the "Ukraine Recovery Conference" in Berlin.
A few days earlier, they had inaugurated an armoured vehicle factory in western Ukraine, which is operated by the joint venture Rheinmetall Ukrainian Defence Industry LLC.
The first Lynx infantry fighting vehicle from Rheinmetall should be handed over to the Ukrainian armed forces by the end of this year, and local production should begin as soon as possible.
Earlier Socialportal reported that Ukrainian Defence Industry LLC and German defence concern Rheinmetall have set up a company that will repair and maintain the vehicles in 2023.
