The Russian dictator reiterated his readiness to discuss security guarantees for Kiev.

Russia has put forward new conditions for a possible peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine - they were discussed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump during a meeting in Alaska. About it writes Reuters.

According to the agency, citing its own sources, these proposals of the Kremlin include not only the requirement for Kiev to give up the eastern regions, but also a clause on giving the Russian language an official status.

The agency's interlocutors specified that their knowledge of the content of Moscow's initiatives was mainly based on conversations between the leaders of the USA, Europe and Ukraine, so the picture is incomplete. Nevertheless, some key details have become known.

According to the Russian approach, a ceasefire is possible only after the conclusion of a final peace treaty. Under it, Ukraine must withdraw its troops from Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and Moscow, in return, undertakes to "freeze" the front line in Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions.

The sources also say that Russia will only allow the return of relatively small territories occupied in Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

In a separate item, according to Reuters, the Kremlin is insisting on formal recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea. At the same time, it is still unclear whether the recognition is only from the United States or from all Western countries together with Ukraine.

In addition, Moscow expects at least part of the international sanctions to be lifted. Another demand is Ukraine's refusal to join NATO, although sources emphasise that Vladimir Putin has admitted the possibility of providing Kiev with "certain international security guarantees".

Among other conditions, the Kremlin mentions the official consolidation of the status of the Russian language, either in certain Ukrainian territories or throughout the country. Additionally, the Kremlin demands freedom of activity for the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).

Meeting in Alaska

Talks between Putin and Trump took place on 15 August in Anchorage at the Elmendorf-Richardson base. The US delegation consisted of Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff. On the Russian side, Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and presidential aide Yuri Ushakov were present.

US President Donald Trump later said he rated his meeting with Putin "10 out of 10". At the same time, Trump emphasised that further it was Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who was responsible for signing the ceasefire agreement.
