The rector of one of the churches of the Vinnytsia diocese of the UOC-MP was sentenced to two years' imprisonment.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

In his Telegram channel, the convict called the armed aggression of the Russian Federation a "civil war" in Ukraine and praised terrorists Zakharchenko, Givi and Motorola. He also disseminated publications and comments from the press service of the Russian Orthodox Church, which justified the seizure of part of the territory of Ukraine and glorified the Russian occupiers.

At the same time, the cleric regularly distributed author's comments in which he tried to discredit the Ukrainian military and insulted the religious feelings of believers of different confessions. To disguise criminal actions, the archpriest wrote on social networks under a fictitious pseudonym," the SBU said.

During the service and personal communication, the convict spread pro-Kremlin narratives.

It is noted that the attacker tried to escape from justice using different addresses in several regions of Ukraine. SBU officers tracked him down and detained him.

Illegal activities of the abbot were confirmed by expert examinations. Thus, the court found him guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • ч. 2 article 109 - actions aimed at violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order or seizure of state power;
  • ч. 2 of Article 436-2 - justification, recognition of lawfulness, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants.

The perpetrator fully cooperated with the investigation, so he was sentenced to 2 years in prison
