The South African president and other African leaders came to Russia "not to ask for any 'gifts' for Africa."

This was reported by the Liga newspaper.

At a meeting with dictator Vladimir Putin, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa suggested that the latter return to the grain agreement.

Among other things, Ramaphosa emphasised that he and representatives of other African countries came to Russia "not to ask for any 'gifts' for Africa". In addition, Ramaphosa told Putin:

We certainly understand that out of generosity you have decided to provide grain for free to some African countries that are facing certain difficulties. We have great respect for that. However, this is not our main goal here, it is not our main task to achieve any supplies of this nature.

It is worth recalling that Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative on 17 July 2023. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that the UN and Turkey continue the work of the corridor without Russia.
