In Antarctica, hundreds of penguins "occupied" the Ukrainian polar station "Akademik Vernadsky".

This was reported by the National Antarctic Research Centre.

Penguins have occupied the workspace of Ukrainian meteorologists - a meteorological site with various instruments - near Vernadskyy. Our scientists are in shock and do not know how they can continue to make observations and send information to the world databases. Of course, we are joking. Over the past few days, the black and white birds that return en masse to Vernadsky for the mating season have really taken a liking to our meteorological site. Now there are already almost 200 here," the message says.

Most of all penguins liked the gauge (a special bucket in which precipitation accumulates) and actinometric complex (measures the level of solar radiation).

Polar explorers and penguins co-exist perfectly together. Meteorologists quietly sneak to their instruments and take the necessary readings, trying not to scare the birds. They have already got used to such "two-legged" neighbours and almost do not react to them.

Ukrainian scientists continue to transmit meteorological observations every three hours, based on which they make both short-term weather forecasts and long-term climate change modelling.

On Galindez Island, where the Akademik Vernadsky station is located, there are already more than 2.6 thousand penguins . They are not making nests yet, because the locations and building materials are still covered with snow, but they are already actively occupying places.
