Pashinyan says Baku may be preparing military aggression against Armenia

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during the opening of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan that there are signs that Baku may be preparing for military aggression against his country, which some Azerbaijani sources have started calling "Western Azerbaijan". This is reported by News.am.

The Armenian prime minister pointed out that Yerevan and Baku have yet to resolve the issues of exclaves and enclaves - Armenian settlements, which are actually located on the territory of Azerbaijan.

Pashinyan noted that he is alarmed by the fact that recently the Republic of Armenia has started to be called "Western Azerbaijan" under "the highest patronage and at the official level in Azerbaijan", in particular "in schools, universities and Azerbaijani media".

This seems to be a preparation for the organisation of a new military aggression against Armenia, and is also one of the main obstacles to the advancement of the peace process," the Armenian prime minister said.

It should be noted that the two independent countries have long been in conflict over territories. In particular, they have long fought over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which was predominantly populated by Armenians and, according to international law, belongs to Azerbaijan. In September, Azerbaijan regained control of Nagorno-Karabakh in a one-day military operation after the region was abandoned by almost the entire Armenian population.

Armenia and Azerbaijan are working to re-establish diplomatic relations.
