Trump has said more than once that he deserves the award

Pakistan has formally recommended US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his "decisive role in de-escalating the 2025 Indo-Pak crisis". A message to this effect appeared on the Pakistan government's X page.

Islamabad praised Trump's diplomacy for averting war between the two nuclear powers "after Indian aggression and Pakistan's measured military response".

His intervention led to a ceasefire and averted a regional catastrophe," the statement said.

Pakistan also praised Trump's willingness to mediate in the Kashmir dispute, calling his actions a continuation of his peace-building legacy.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he would mediate a deal between Congo and Rwanda over a war that has been "decades in the making". He wrote on his Truth social media account.

I am very happy to report that together with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, I was able to broker a wonderful treaty between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda, who are engaged in a war known for brutal bloodshed and deaths, even more than most other wars, and has been going on for decades," he wrote.

He added, however, that he "won't get a Nobel Prize for that," nor, in his opinion, for any other "end to war."

The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the most prestigious international awards given annually to people or organisations that have made a significant contribution to peaceful coexistence, disarmament, the struggle for human rights, democracy and humanitarian aid. It is not awarded in Sweden, but in Oslo, Norway. The winner receives a diploma, a medal and a cash prize. It is given to politicians, activists and international organisations.
