Norway will ban cars with Russian licence plates from entering the country from October.

The changes will take effect at midnight on Tuesday night, 3 October. This was announced by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 29 September.

It is reported that Norway has waived the sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia, with some national changes. The purpose of the historically extensive sanctions is to reduce Russia's ability to finance the war against Ukraine, which is contrary to international law.

Norway , together with allies and like-minded countries, is responding to the brutal war of aggression that Russia is waging against Ukraine. It is important that the sanctions are effective so that we prevent as much revenue as possible that the Russian state needs to finance the war," says Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.

The clarification of the restrictions means, among other things, that Russian-registered passenger cars with nine or fewer seats can no longer be imported into Norway, even when importing intermediate vehicles.

However, this provision does not apply to vehicles with ten or more seats. Thus, it is still possible to cross the border, for example, in minibuses and buses.
