Nepal has said it will stop issuing work permits to its citizens in Russia and Ukraine after fighters from Nepal were killed while serving with Russian troops.

Nepal has stopped issuing work permits to its citizens in Russia and Ukraine until further notice after at least 10 Nepali soldiers were killed while serving in the Russian army. This was reported by Reuters.

Nepal has reportedly asked Russia not to recruit its citizens into the Russian army and immediately send all Nepali soldiers back and compensate the families of the dead.

The Nepalese government has said up to 200 Nepalese nationals are serving in the Russian army, while Foreign Minister N.P. Saud told the state-run RSS news agency that about 100 Nepalis are reported missing.

Last month, Nepal police detained 10 people on charges of sending unemployed youths for illegal recruitment into the Russian army.

The Russian embassy in Kathmandu did not respond to Reuters' requests for comment.
