Prisoner-of-war correspondence is guaranteed by Article #71 of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Since August 2022, 2,760 letters from Ukrainian prisoners of war to their relatives and 6,808 letters to prisoners of war from their relatives have been transferred to Ukraine. This was reported by the Ukrainian Integration Ministry on 9 January.
More than 9.5 thousand letters between Ukrainian prisoners of war and their relatives have already been transferred," the ministry said.
It is stressed that correspondence is guaranteed by Article 71 of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
The rules for writing correspondence were developed by the National Information Bureau (NIB), which works under the Ministry of Reintegration.
Round-trip delivery of letters is organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross for those prisoners of war whose status has been confirmed by this organisation.
