A serious threat arose at the ZNPP: the plant could be mined
As a result of yesterday's shelling of the ZNPP site, power lines were damaged, one of the plant's power units was disconnected from the power system and transferred to the reserve.
Zaporozhye NPP is currently operating with the risk of violation of radiation and fire safety standards. This was announced on Saturday, August 6 by the press service of Energoatom .
They noted that the enemy had fired at the strategic facility twice the day before with MLRS, thereby seriously violating the nitrogen-oxygen station and the joint auxiliary corps. As a result of the attack on the Zaporizhzhya NPP, emergency protection worked at one of the power units, one of the three operating power units was turned off.
The risks of hydrogen leakage and radioactive spraying remain, and the fire hazard is also high, the report says.
It is noted that ZNPP is still occupied and controlled by the Russian military.
Considering that it is impossible to foresee the actions of the invaders, the threat to the physical security of the plant remains, Energoatom warns.
They also noted that the Ukrainian staff of the station continues to work and make every effort to ensure nuclear and radiation safety, as well as eliminate the consequences of damage.
Zaporozhye NPP continues to operate and produce electricity for the needs of the energy system of Ukraine, the report says.
As Alexander Starukh, the head of the Zaporizhia OVA, said on the morning of August 6, power unit No. 4 was turned off at the Zaporozhye NPP. He stressed that in the event of an accident, evacuation from the station is impossible.
A provocation was prepared in Energodar. Two power lines were damaged, the 4th power unit was disconnected from the network. There is no great danger yet, but I must state that all our plans for evacuation - and in the event of accidents at nuclear power plants in our country have been worked out in every region, especially where there are nuclear power plants, evacuation measures - in such conditions as today, these measures are almost impossible to implement,” he said.
In turn, The Insider reports that "suspicious activity of Russian soldiers" is observed on the territory of the station. According to the publication, a convoy of trucks arrived at the ZNPP territory. Some of the cars drove into the engine room of the first power unit through the cargo gates. The Insider does not rule out that the enemy could mine the area around the ZNPP. They also suggest that the Russians could mine the station itself, at the same time, the publication emphasizes that they do not have verified information regarding internal mining.
The Russians store mines and ammunition in close proximity to the power units, under the flyovers, and part of it even inside the power unit, writes the edition.
It is noted that there are about 500 occupiers at the ZNPP, their armored personnel carriers, anti-aircraft guns, equipment for radiochemical reconnaissance. Batteries of the Grad MLRS are located near the village of Vodyanoye near the station.
In Energoatom, the actions of the Russian side were called those that border on terrorism and called for strengthening sanctions on the Russian Federation, in particular on its nuclear sector.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on the international community to force Russia to release and return the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant to Ukrainian control.
