MP says 20-year-olds can fight
Younger people have better physical fitness and are also quicker at navigating technologies commonly used in combat.
Everyone over 20 years old should be sent to war. This was stated by MP and secretary of the Verkhovna Rada committee for national security Roman Kostenko on the air of Radio NV.
The MP pointed out that he often talks to Western politicians on this topic and they, according to him, are surprised that the army takes people only from the age of 25. The allies allegedly believe that people aged 18-25 are most effectively able to fight "given their physical and psychological qualities." At the same time, he emphasised that such talk is unofficial.
Who determined that the price of life is more expensive for some and not for others? We are all people of this country, and we all have to defend it, no matter how old someone is. And if the Constitution determines that a person from the age of 21 can become a parliamentarian, then he can definitely become a soldier from 20," Kostenko said.
The MP also admitted that forced mobilisation is not effective as many such soldiers do not show themselves properly at the front. Kostenko stressed that in our situation it is necessary to look for incentives for the population to go to war for the Motherland.
We will remind, on 2 April, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law on reducing the age limit for conscripts from 27 to 25 years. However, discussions on this topic continue.
