The Ministry of Health has approved Order No. 1586, introducing significant changes to COVID-19 vaccination.

A second booster dose is permitted for all adults at least four months after the first booster dose. Igor Kuzin, Deputy Minister of Health and Chief State Sanitary Doctor, spoke about this at a briefing.

The situation with coronavirus disease is still under control, but we must be prepared for a further increase in the number of cases. One of the essential stages of this readiness is vaccination, primarily for risk groups. For as many people as possible, to protect themselves from hospitalization and death due to COVID-19, we allow a second dose to everyone. However, we advise people with chronic diseases and people aged 60+ to take it. Separately, I would like to emphasize that vaccination is now not only about one's protection; being vaccinated means not creating a burden on hospitals that should save the lives of our military, - said Igor Kuzin.

Ukraine plans to allow vaccination of children 5-11 years old against COVID-19. The vaccination will be carried out with Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine.

Ukraine must now wait for the appropriate vaccine because vaccination of children aged 5-11 years requires a different dosage than for children over 12 years old and adults. Shortly, this vaccine will be available in Ukraine, the ministry said.

What changes have been made so far:

  • adults 18 years and older should receive an introductory course of COVID-19 vaccinations with one dose of the Janssen or two doses of CoronaVac or Pfizer vaccines.;
  • five months after the primary course, all people over 18 years of age should receive their first booster;
  • four months after the first booster, adults at risk for severe COVID-19 should receive a second booster;
  • other adults can also get a second booster shot.
