A UNESCO mission will arrive in Odessa because of the Russian shelling of Odessa, which damaged architectural monuments.

This is reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

It is planned that UNESCO will arrive in Odessa in the near future. It is to carry out a preliminary assessment of the damage to the cultural heritage sites.

The Organization stressed that deliberately hitting cultural sites and destroying and damaging them can be equated to a war crime," the statement said.

However, it is known that the aggressor country still has membership in UNESCO. ICIP called on the member countries to exclude Russia from the organisation to preserve and restore the cultural heritage of Ukraine.

Recall, the enemy is actively shelling Odessa and the region. As a result of shelling on 23 July, 25 architectural monuments were damaged. The Transfiguration Cathedral, which is considered the largest Orthodox church in Odessa and southern Ukraine, was also damaged.
