British Ministry of Defense: Russia is regrouping troops

Last week, the Russian army moved its units to the south of Ukraine.

As noted by the UK Department of Defense on Twitter , the Russian army has been actively moving its troops to southern Ukraine in the past week. However, in the Donbas, Russian-backed forces, mostly DPR fighters, continue to attempt attacks north of Donetsk. So, in the area of the village of Peski, not far from the Donetsk airport, fierce battles unfolded.

Since 2014, this area has been on the front line of Donbas control. The Russian attack is likely aimed at capturing the M04 highway, the main approach to Donetsk from the west, a Twitter post said.

It should be noted that the American Institute for the Study of War ISW believes that the growing Russian attacks in eastern Ukraine serve as a distraction from the south.

Strikes in the direction of Bakhmut may represent an attempt to divert Ukrainian equipment and personnel to the Bakhmut-Seversk line in the northeast of Donetsk region in order to divert Ukraine's attention from the south, where Ukrainian forces are conducting effective counterattacks and possibly creating conditions for a counteroffensive , - explained at the Institute for the Study of War.
