Merkel expressed doubts that Ukraine will be able to remain an independent state

After Russia's attack on Ukraine, the basic principle of the European post-war order - territorial inviolability - became ineffective.
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that Ukraine will not be able to remain an independent country without the support of the USA and NATO. Frankfurter Allgemeine writes about it.
Only together with the United States and within NATO it is possible to achieve that the Putis did not win the war, and Ukraine remained an independent state, - said the politician speaking at a reception of the Christian Democratic Union in Düsseldorf.
At the same time, she noted that with Russia's attack on Ukraine, the basic principle of the European post-war order - territorial inviolability - has become ineffective, and the transatlantic partnership is now even more necessary than before.
She agreed that for Donald Trump, US interests remain paramount and called him a "special president".
We will not change Donald Trump, but we can react to him," Merkel said.
At the same time, Merkel pointed out that the U.S. also needs Europe, as Washington needs reliable allies in the east.
The US would also be conceding foolishly if it did not seek an ally in Europe. We are also a powerful factor. Europe is our life insurance," the former chancellor emphasised.
