London drafts ceasefire plan that Ukraine already agrees to 90 per cent - New York Post

Ukraine is 90 per cent ready to support the decision on a complete cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine, which is being prepared in London, but it is not clear whether Moscow will join this initiative. The New York Post quoted an unnamed senior official of the White House administration as saying so.

As the high-ranking source stressed, Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov assured representatives of the Trump administration that Kiev almost fully (90%) supports his peace plan. However, Ukraine remains concerned about where ceasefire lines will be established that could freeze the current fighting.

"The bulk of their concern is about land ... what they call 'de jure' and 'de facto,'" an administration official said.

"De facto" means the U.S. acknowledging that Russia is occupying Ukrainian territories, but without a commitment to recognise those territories as Russia's in perpetuity. While "de jure" implies Washington's recognition that Russia has consolidated its control over the seized territories without the possibility of returning them.

Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether Russia will agree to this initiative, given its previous attempts to derail peace talks.

This week in London, we plan to decide on a full and comprehensive ceasefire," the official said, adding that consultations with the Russian side will begin after that to clarify Moscow's final terms.

As soon as this stage is reached, further steps will be determined," the official added, noting that Trump is ready to leave the talks, shifting responsibility for the situation to European partners.
