Kupyansk Mayor Arrested for Surrendering City to Occupiers

Gennady Matsegora, who occupied the chair of the mayor of Kupyansk, Kharkiv region since November 24, 2020, surrendered the city on February 27. As he himself stated, he agreed to let the invaders through "in order to avoid destruction and loss of life."

For high treason, the Ukrainian prosecutor's office opened a criminal case against Matsegora under Part 2 of Art. 110, part 1, art. 111 of the Criminal Code.

According to the head of the Kharkiv regional administration Oleg Sinegubov, recently Gennady Matsegora was arrested by the Russian occupation authorities. It is not yet known what the Russians are accusing him of.

Matsegora went over to the side of the enemy in the very first days of the war and in every possible way assisted the Russian invaders in Kupyansk. Provided them with transport, housing, fuel and food. And now, obviously, they no longer need it. For the occupiers, this has already become a system. First, they use traitors and their resources, and then they are removed,” Sinegubov said.

Recall that Gennady Matsegora ran for the post of mayor of Kupyansk from the now banned Opposition Platform for Life.
