Hundreds of people who arrived in Astana from Crimea via Russia gathered in front of the Ukrainian embassy in Kazakhstan. Most of them are Crimean Tatars.

Many of them plan to obtain international passports to travel further to third countries. Radio Liberty reports itreported by Radio Liberty.

Many of us do not want to fight. We Muslims always preach peace. How can you preach peace if someone is to be killed? In Ukraine, civilians are dying, and civilian infrastructure is being destroyed. Will Muslims do this? So many of us just gave up on it,” said one of them.

Many do not plan to stay in Kazakhstan but plan to travel to other countries.

I want to visit my relatives, including my brother. I'm going to see him indefinitely. My family stayed in Crimea. I am apprehensive about them; I love them very much. I liked Kazakhstan on the very first day,” said a man who came under the walls of the Ukrainian embassy.

Consul of Ukraine in Kazakhstan Ivan Almashy said: "The embassy will try to help in any way it can, regardless of what documents they have."

If they provided a passport of a citizen of Ukraine and did not withdraw from citizenship of Ukraine, then they are citizens of Ukraine. There are a lot of people. My task is to ensure that they have legal documents ... We must check everything and, if possible, issue all of them: for someone - a passport, for someone - a certificate of return. It all depends on what documents they have,” Almasi said.
