Kim Jong-un says DPRK support for Russia's actions in war against Ukraine has reasons

The head of North Korea has made a statement on his country's role in the armed confrontation between Russia and Ukraine.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said the participation of the North Korean military in the Russian-Ukrainian war as justified and fair, emphasising brotherly relations with the people of Russia. This was reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
He claimed Pyongyang and Moscow conducted a successful joint operation to "liberate" the Kursk region, which he described as temporarily seized by "neo-Nazis from Ukraine." However, according to information from the AFU General Staff as of the evening of 9 May, Ukrainian forces are holding positions and have repelled 19 enemy attacks in the area.
Participation in hostilities is fully in line with our national sovereignty. I am proud of every fighter who took part in the operation in the Kursk direction. For us, they are true heroes and symbols of national pride," the North Korean leader said.
Kim Jong-un also warned the United States, promising to authorise the use of military force if Washington continues to take actions that he regards as "military provocations" against Russia.
It should be noted that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un ordered to send units of the North Korean armed forces to Russia under Article 4 of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, which Russia and the DPRK concluded in 2024.
