Many Ukrainians are gradually returning home from other countries where they lived and some of them are traveling with animals.
The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection told how Ukrainians who went abroad after February 24 can return home with their pets.
They noted that the procedure for crossing the border now because of the war is simplified, however, it also requires the implementation of a number of rules.
In order to return to Ukraine from abroad, you need a European passport or a pet health certificate. In this case, the animal must be vaccinated against rabies and be microchipped, the department said.
They also noted that if the animal traveled abroad with the owner without previous vaccinations and without formalized documents, then before returning home, the pet must be vaccinated and microchipped, having received the relevant documents issued in the EU member states.
Refugees with animals in Europe must inform the local veterinary service about their place of residence and register the animal, the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection recalled.
Recall that earlier, to enter Ukraine with animals, it was necessary to issue an international certificate, during the war this rule was canceled.
How to take a pet abroad?
Under the updated rules, which apply to dogs, cats and ferrets, the animal must be:
- correctly identified by microchip, – vaccinated against rabies and the vaccination should still be valid;
- have an up-to-date result of a serological test for the determination of antibodies to the causative agent of rabies;
- have a valid passport issued in one of the EU countries or a health certificate that complies with the model established in EU law.
Since the beginning of the war, more than six million refugees have left Ukraine. Many saved not only themselves and relatives, but also their pets.
