Johnson proposed to create an alliance against the Russian Federation - media

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson proposed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to create an alliance against Russia.
According to Corriere Della Sera , due to the vague position of individual countries on the prospect of Ukraine's membership in the EU, Johnson proposed a new system of political, economic and military alliances. It is assumed that countries dissatisfied with the position of the EU and Germany's response to the military aggression of the Russian Federation can gather in a new alliance.
It is noted that Johnson has been promoting this idea for more than a month. He first introduced it to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a visit to Kyiv on April 9.
The proposed model of the European Commonwealth would include the UK as the leader of the organization and countries such as Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and possibly Turkey at a later stage.
The publication writes that while Kyiv has not taken a definite position on this initiative. However, the Ukrainian elite has become convinced that few people in Germany and France hope for the defeat of Vladimir Putin, which is the reason for the delays with sanctions against Russia and the supply of weapons.
Zelensky is allegedly waiting for the summit of EU leaders on June 23 and their decision on the status of a candidate for EU membership. But it is not certain that the decision of this summit will be the one that Ukraine is counting on. Because it could provoke protests from Albania and North Macedonia, which have been waiting years for candidate status.
It is also noted that the European Union may limit itself to a vague statement that Kyiv has a European perspective. In this case, Zelensky may take the proposal of the British prime minister more seriously.
