Italy takes offence at Estonia and demands to withdraw its song from Eurovision

The Italians were outraged by the lyrics of the song Espresso Macchiato, with which the Estonians plan to perform at the music contest.
The Italian consumer protection association Codacons has filed a complaint with the European Broadcasting Union. The organisation demands that Estonia's song Espresso Macchiato be removed from Eurovision 2025. According to representatives of the organisation, it is full of stereotypes about Italians. This is reported by Today.it.
It is about the song Espresso Macchiato. It was chosen by Estonia in the national final of Eesti Laul 2025. The rapper Tommy Cash is to perform it at the international competition.
Codacons believes that the song offends Italy and its citizens. They claim that it conveys a negative image of the country.
The song uses clichés such as the love of coffee and spaghetti, as well as references to the mafia and ostentatious luxury - the organisation pointed out and assured that these are false collective images of the country.
They invited Tommy Cash to the country to see for himself that Italy is much more than the existing clichés.
We would like to remind you that this year's Eurovision Song Contest will be held in the Swiss city of Basel. The venue was chosen for its infrastructure and ability to accommodate thousands of participants, spectators and journalists.
The Eurovision 2025 final will take place on 17 May at the St. Jakobshalle Hall, with the semi-finals taking place on 13 and 15 May.
In 2024, the contest was held in Malmö and Switzerland won with The Code, performed by singer Nemo.
