On the night of 24 June, Wagner PMC mercenaries led by oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin crossed the Russian state border and entered Rostov.

The Wagnerians took control of administrative and military facilities Rostov's. They then advanced to Voronezh. The leader of the mercenaries threatened to march on the capital Moscow.

In the morning, Vladimir Putin called the actions of the Wagner PMC ringleader a betrayal and declared an anti-terrorist operation.

Prigozhin reacted to Putin's statement and for the first time publicly refused to obey the head of the Kremlin and said that "no one is going to come to terms with the FSB president's demand.

In particular, Prigozhin's press service released an audio recording of another of his statements:

On the subject of betraying the motherland, the president is deeply mistaken. We are patriots of our homeland, we have fought and are fighting, all the fighters of PMC Vagner, and no one is going to come to confess at the request of the FSB president or anyone else, because we do not want the country to continue living in corruption, in deceit and in bureaucracy," the statement said.

Prigozhin pointed out that his mercenaries fought in Africa because the Kremlin said "we need Africa". And then the group of mercenaries "were abandoned because they stole all the money that was supposed to go to help.

When we were told that we were at war with Ukraine, we went and fought, but it turned out that the supplies of arms, all the money that was put in, were also stolen, and the bureaucrats sit back and save it for themselves, just for the occasion that came today, when someone goes to Moscow," Prigozhin said.

Meanwhile, Prigozhin's mercenaries are demanding no resistance.

A truck is being moved to Leninsky Avenue at the entrance to Moscow, near Troparevo metro.

The Lipetsk Region Operational Headquarters recommends that the region's residents do not leave their homes unless absolutely necessary and refrain from travelling by private or public transport.

Voronezh Governor Gusev voiced his support for Putin and urged residents of the region not to succumb to provocation.

The Sverdlovsk Region has declared a state of high alert. Members of the government and heads of local administrations have been given additional powers, including: to evacuate the population.

Wagner fighters set up minefields in Rostov.

A Cheka-OGPU source told of a riot by inmates in Moscow's Vodnik pre-detention centre. Politician Vladimir Kara-Murza is being held in Vodnik pre-detention centre No 5.

Meanwhile, Russian telegram channels say that the Wagner PMC veterans who wished to take part in the armed insurgency have been ordered to wait for a signal in full combat readiness, one of the fighters involved in the invasion of Ukraine told reporters.

We are waiting for an official order from Batya [Yevhen Prigozhin]. The Rosgvardiya and the army refuse to carry out orders, and we have been ordered to wait in full combat readiness. There should be an order for further action by lunchtime," he said.
