Strike on Kiev on 31 July: dozens of victims, children among the dead

The president paid special attention to the consequences of the Russian attack on Kiev on the night of 31 July. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported to the head of state on the results of search and rescue operations. They have already been completed, but the emergency and recovery operations continue.

According to the latest data, 31 people, including five children, became victims of the impact. The youngest was only two years old. Another 159 people were injured, among them 16 children. All the victims are under medical supervision and are receiving the necessary assistance.

My condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Thank you to rescuers, police officers, doctors, nurses, communal workers - everyone who helps people," Zelensky said.

He also emphasised that the strike on Kiev once again demonstrates the need to increase pressure on Russia and impose new sanctions. According to him, despite the Kremlin's public statements, the sanctions are working and should become even tougher.

The capital is in the crosshairs: the scale of the destruction

On the night of 31 July, Russia launched a massive strike on Ukraine, with Kiev as its main target. The enemy fired more than 300 kamikaze drones and at least eight cruise missiles. Serious damage was recorded in Svyatoshynskyi and Solomenskyi districts of the capital.

In Svyatoshynskyi district the entrance of a residential building was destroyed, under the rubble rescuers were searching for the dead and wounded for a long time. In other parts of the city, hits were recorded in residential houses, administrative buildings, cars and an educational institution.

According to the authorities, the attack was one of the most destructive for Kiev in recent months.
