Fires are raging in the south of Europe. The situation for tourists is getting more complicated

The south of Europe is engulfed in fires caused by the abnormal heatwave, with temperatures exceeding +40 degrees Celsius.
The threat of fire spreading is increasing in Montenegro, Greece and Spain. Mass evacuations are continuing in some regions, and tourists are advised to be careful, according to the Polish Press Agency.
The situation in Montenegro is extremely complicated: large-scale fires have engulfed several regions - from the capital Podgorica to the sea coast and the north of the country, the Ministry of Defence informs.
Montenegro is under a red (highest) weather warning level due to strong winds, which significantly complicate firefighting. Evacuation of the population is being carried out in a number of districts.
The country's Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said that there are signs of deliberate arson. Police have identified suspects.
Large forest fires are also raging in other Mediterranean countries, where a combination of heat, wind and human error has led to disasters.
The fires have also engulfed Spain. Thousands of people have been evacuated across the country. Police earlier said active fire hotspots had been detected from the air and potential suspects had been identified. "We are taking all measures to find out the causes of the fires. Particular attention is being paid to identifying and prosecuting those who provoked the fires intentionally or through negligence," the emergency services said in a statement.
In Greece on Tuesday, 12 August, began a large-scale evacuation of residents and tourists on the islands of Zakynthos and Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea due to severe forest fires. The fire, intensified by heat and strong winds, is spreading rapidly and approaching residential areas and tourist infrastructure.
Zakynthos Mayor Yorgos Stazinopoulos said "the fire is out of control" and dangerous winds are raging in the region. In western Greece, 85 firefighters and 10 aircraft are involved in the extinguishment near the town of Vonitsa, but the flames have already reached the suburbs.
Tourists are advised to be prepared for possible evacuation, not to visit dangerous areas and to closely follow the messages of the authorities. Weather conditions remain unfavourable: high temperatures and strong winds are expected at least until the end of the week, which increases the risk of new fires, including in popular European resorts.
