European Parliament recognises Russia as a sponsor of terrorism

The European Parliament has recognised the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism and a state using the means of terrorism, calling for its comprehensive international isolation.

A resolution to this effect was voted on Wednesday in the EP plenary in Strasbourg.

The resolution was supported by 494 MEPs, with 58 against and 44 abstentions.

Also, given the escalation of Russian strikes on Ukraine's civil infrastructure, the European Parliament called on the EU to speed up work on the ninth package of sanctions against Russia.
