Europe cuts gas demand to be independent of Russia

Europe is now trying to reduce demand for gas in every way possible and, judging by the latest figures, it is having some success. EU countries cut gas demand by a quarter in November, despite falling temperatures.

The EU is trying to achieve reduced dependence on Russian gas through alternative suppliers or curbing consumption. A warm autumn and super-high gas prices also helped reduce demand.

However, analysts warn that without further reductions in demand and increased imports of liquefied gas, Europe's gas shortages could persist for years.
