Embezzlement of money in the Ministry of Defence: suspect detained in Greece

In Athens, a Ukrainian suspected of embezzling budget money in the amount of 43m hryvnias has been detained.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor-General.
According to the investigation, the suspect, in collusion with other persons, took possession of the funds that the limited liability company received as advance payment under contracts concluded with the Ukrainian Defence Ministry for the purchase of military goods," the statement said.
After that, the money was transferred to the accounts of individual entrepreneurs for allegedly providing works and services.
It is noted that the crime was committed in the period from 2 March to 10 May 2022, when the suspect held the position of Director of the company.
The man was reported on suspicion of taking possession of other people's property by abuse of his official position and disposal of property obtained by criminal means, committed on a large scale by an organised group (part 5 of article 191, part 3 of article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) on 12 July 2022.
on 6 November 2023, the prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General sent a request to the competent Greek authorities for the detention and temporary arrest of the above-mentioned person. Also, within the framework of co-operation with Interpol, a request for the publication of a Red Notice was sent," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
Thus, the suspect was detained and temporarily arrested by the decision of the Court of Appeal of Athens.
At the moment, the preparation of documents for a request for extradition of the suspect to Ukraine for criminal prosecution continues.
