Ancient artefacts exported to the US via Russian Federation returned to Ukraine
Ancient artefacts, in particular, Scythian swords, part of an ancient spear, a Bronze Age dagger, as well as other items of historical heritage seized during an attempt to smuggle them into the United States from Russia have been handed over to Ukraine.
The ceremony of handing over the ancient artifacts took place at the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington on Thursday, 21 September, with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Ukrinform reported.
When something is returned to Ukraine, something stolen by Russia, it means that life is returned to Ukraine and, very importantly, justice is established," Zelensky said.
US Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas stressed that the return of artefacts to Ukraine is of great importance.
These things represent the country's heritage, its history, its culture," Mayorkas said.
Theancient artefacts presented at the ceremony were discovered last June by the US Customs and Border Protection Service.
