China's humanoid robots put on a race in the Gobi Desert.

Engineers at Chinese robotics company Robot Era have released an exciting video of their new Star1 humanoid robots competing to run across the Gobi Desert.

In the footage, filmed late last month, the two robots, which are 170 centimetres tall and weigh 65 kilograms each, run across the sands of the Gobi Desert, competing against each other. One of the robots runs barefoot, while the other is wearing trainers.

Robot Era engineers noted that the robot in the trainers started later than its rival, but quickly caught up and took the lead. This demonstrated the impact of 'footwear' on robot locomotion efficiency.
