Callas warned that Putin is not to be trusted

EU leaders discussed ways to strengthen Ukraine's security amid mistrust in the actions of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin cannot be trusted and only reliable security measures can stop a possible future Russian invasion of Ukraine. She wrote about this on social network X.
She emphasised that today in the EU is felt a common vision on the Ukrainian issue.
All EU countries seek a lasting peace that protects the key security interests of Ukraine and Europe. Putin cannot be trusted to honour his promises and commitments, so security guarantees must be so robust to deter Russia from regrouping and renewing aggression," Kallas said.
The EU's top diplomat also said that the European Union would make every effort to provide such guarantees, including training the Ukrainian military and strengthening the country's defence capabilities.
The EU will continue to take measures against the Russian military economy. A new package of sanctions against Moscow is planned by next month. These issues were paramount in the discussions with the EU foreign and defence ministers," she added.
We shall remind you that one of the main topics of discussion at the White House on 18 August was security guarantees for Ukraine. The talks were attended by the presidents of Ukraine, the USA, France, Finland, the prime ministers of the UK and Italy, the German chancellor, the president of the European Commission and the NATO secretary-general. The allies are seeking to provide Ukraine with security guarantees similar to NATO's Article 5, but outside the Alliance. US President Donald Trump has said that the USA will join the guarantees, but the leading role will be played by European countries, while the US military will not be stationed on the territory of Ukraine.
