British intelligence explained the appointment of Surovikin as commander of Russian troops in Ukraine

Prior to this, Russia did not have a single field commander over its troops.
This is stated in the intelligence review of the British Ministry of Defense.
The main reason is the Russian national security community's desire to improve the conduct of military operations in Ukraine.
Until then, according to the report, Russia had no single field commander over its troops.
Instead, General Alexander Dvornikov held such a post between April and August 2022. But it remains unclear whether he could effectively control Russia's disparate and competing groupings of troops.
It is worth noting that Sergei Surovikin previously commanded a motorized rifle division in Chechnya. Since 2017 he has been in charge of a group of troops in Syria. And then, he became commander-in-chief of the Air and Space Forces of Russia.
