Bodies of 1,200 more Ukrainians returned from Russia: details

The bodies of another 1,200 dead citizens have been returned to Ukraine, among them the bodies of military personnel.
This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
As a result of repatriation measures, the bodies of 1,200 dead people have been returned to Ukraine," the headquarters said.
According to the Russian side, these are Ukrainian citizens, in particular servicemen.
How repatriation took place
Repatriation became possible thanks to the agreements reached in Istanbul. The bodies were returned through the efforts of the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Centre under the Security Service of Ukraine, the AFU, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Ombudsman, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons in Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Situations Service and other agencies of the security and defence system of Ukraine.
In the future, law enforcement officers, together with experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will identify the bodies and carry out the necessary expertise.
We express our gratitude for the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross," the headquarters added.
Separately, they thanked the AFU servicemen involved in the transport of bodies, as well as specialists of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Health involved in the process of transfer and expertise.
What is known about the exchange of prisoners
We shall remind you that on 2 June, after the second round of negotiations in Istanbul, the Ukrainian and Russian delegations agreed to exchange seriously wounded and seriously ill prisoners, as well as prisoners aged between 18 and 25. These categories will be exchanged not by number but on the principle of "all for all".
An agreement was also reached on the repatriation of about 6,000 bodies of dead servicemen.
At the same time, President Vladimir Zelenski warned that the process requires caution, as the Russian side identified only 15-20% of the bodies in their possession.
Who has already been recovered
on 9 June, the first stage of the new big exchange began - the first group of released Ukrainian servicemen under the age of 25 returned home.
The exact number of those returned has not yet been disclosed for security reasons - the final data will be made public after the exchange process is completed. Already on 10 June, the second stage of the exchange took place - seriously wounded and seriously ill defenders who had been in Russian captivity returned home.
