Border blocking: European Commissioner warns Poland of responsibility

European Commissioner for Transport Adina Wielian has said that the situation on the border between Poland and Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable and requires active intervention of the Polish authorities. She said this during a press conference in Brussels, Ukrinform reported.

I believe that the situation on the border between Poland and Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable. ... In my assessment, there is currently no goodwill in finding a solution. At the same time, there is almost no involvement of the Polish authorities there. I say so because it is the Polish authorities who, one might assume, should be the ones to uphold the law on this border," the European Commissioner said.

Adina Welyan stressed that she supported people's right to protest, but Ukraine, which is at war, cannot turn into a hostage of blocking external borders.

We continue dialogue, but as the European Commission we reserve the right to intervene, even up to legal prosecution against those who do not respect the rules and do not comply with the laws, - said the European Commissioner.

We will remind, since 6 November on the Ukrainian-Polish border began a strike of Polish carriers.

Among the main demands is the return of the practice of permits for Ukrainian carriers, cancelled by the agreement with the European Union until 30 June 2024.
