BIAB is a major nail trend for 2025: how a manicure that strengthens nails works

BIAB is not just a fashion trend in the world of manicure. It is a real find for those who want to keep their natural nails strong and healthy.

Under this mysterious name - Builder In A Bottle - lies a product that combines the best of gel and acrylic. It has already garnered over 480 million views on TikTok, and no wonder - BIAB can do things that regular gel paint can't, writes Harpers Bazaar India.

What is BIAB?

It is a special coating that is applied directly onto the natural nail. It creates a strong, flexible 'armour' that helps the nail not to break and regrow. BIAB was developed by British brand The GelBottle Inc. in 2017, and has since been actively copied by other manufacturers.

Essentially, it is a thick gel that requires a special application technique and is polymerised under a lamp. With its help, the master can build the apex - the correct curve, which gives the nail strength and shape.

What is the difference between BIAB and regular gel?

Regular gel is thinner and faster to apply, but it doesn't give the same protection. BIAB is thicker, stronger and lasts up to 4 weeks, especially if you do regular touch-ups. It doesn't peel off and is perfect for a nude manicure.

The only disadvantage is the price and time of the procedure: on average, a manicure with BIAB takes about 1.5 hours and costs more than a regular manicure. And during polymerisation you may feel a "heat stroke" - especially for those with thin nails. But the lamps have special modes with low heat, and masters know how to mitigate it.

Who is BIAB suitable for?

Almost everyone - especially those with brittle , thin or layered nails. It allows you to grow length without extensions. But if you're allergic to HEMA (the ingredient responsible for the durability of the coating), it's worth choosing a formula without it - it's almost as good as the original.

Also BIAB may not be suitable for owners of very oily nail plates, in this case it is better to switch to solid gels.

How is the procedure?

The master prepares the nails, applies BIAB with a special brush, forming the apex, and dries under the lamp. After that you can add any gel-colour or leave the natural shade.

Every 2-3 treatments it is recommended to do a complete removal - otherwise layering can lead to cracks.

How long does BIAB last?

It all depends on your lifestyle, but on average - from 2 to 4 weeks. If you do not forget about corrections, your nails will grow strong and beautiful.
