The pace of emigration from Ukraine has slowed down, but citizens continue to leave.

Since the beginning of 2025, more than 100,000 Ukrainians have travelled abroad, despite a decrease in the rate of emigration compared to the previous year. Such data was released by the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy.

The number of refugees has decreased by 300 thousand

As of 16 December 2024, the total number of Ukrainian refugees was 300 thousand more than in mid-May 2025. The Ministry of Economy believes that this indicates a moderate reduction in the flow of outgoing citizens.

Almost 7 million Ukrainian refugees are abroad

According to the UN Refugee Agency, as of 17 April 2025, there are 6.918 million refugees outside Ukraine. Of these, 6.358 million - in European countries, another 560 thousand - outside Europe.

As Socialportal wrote, currently there are more than 6 million Ukrainians in European countries. Most have managed to obtain legal status, basic support, access to medical care, education and labour market. However, life in a foreign land is accompanied by many challenges, and a significant part of people still live "between two worlds". What can the state do to bring back its citizens and how they help the country those who have become part of the Ukrainian diaspora abroad.
