A woman discovered a mysterious NASA object in a field behind her house

A NASA research device the size of a car fell onto a farm in Texas.
An unusual occurrence surprised residents of the small town of Edmonson in the state of Texas, reports Phys.org.
Ann Walter, who lives in a rural area, noticed in the sky a strange massive object, slowly descending with the help of a parachute. It later turned out to be NASA equipment that had broken away from a research probe and made an unplanned landing in a nearby wheat field.
"When you look from below, it's hard to realise the scale of what was happening. But it was a giant parachute, probably 10 metres in diameter," said Ann. The SUV-sized device turned out to be part of a NASA science mission and was labelled with the appropriate logos.
Walter immediately contacted the Hale County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff David Cochran confirmed that NASA had indeed contacted his department looking for the lost equipment. Later, Ann received a call from the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility, which is where they launch large unmanned balloons that rise to heights of more than 30 kilometres to collect scientific data.
According to the official website of the centre, the launch involving this equipment was carried out from the city of Fort Sumner (New Mexico), located about 225 kilometres from the landing site.
The staff of the centre reported that the device was used for astronomical observations: scientists use telescopes to study stars, galaxies and black holes. The equipment was safely taken away after arriving on a lorry with a trailer.
"We managed to take photos and videos while we waited for the experts," Ann shared. - It all seemed unreal. A very unusual but memorable experience."
The incident took place on 2 October 2025. At the same time, NASA officials, as noted by the media, did not comment.
