Despite significant progress in certain areas, the overall dynamics of tightening sanctions against Russia is declining, - KSE Institute.

According to the monitoring of the imposition of sanctions against Russia under the Plan of the Yermak-McFaul Group, a number of important decisions were made during the week (June 1-8).

In particular, restrictions on Russian oil, finance, transport, trade and state-owned companies were expanded, as well as new individual sanctions.

The analysis of the KSE Institute showed that, despite significant progress in certain areas, the overall dynamics of the strengthening of sanctions is declining.

There is no progress with the introduction of secondary restrictions, the recognition of Russia as a sponsor of terrorism, increasing the transparency of the work of international companies in Russia, as well as the development of mechanisms to compensate for Ukraine's losses at the expense of the aggressor.

An important event in the last week was the approval of the sixth package of EU sanctions

Its key position is the ban on the import of Russian oil by sea. Despite the continuation of the pipeline and the exception for certain countries, by the end of the year Russian oil imports to the EU should be reduced by 90%.

The EU has also banned insurance for ships carrying Russian oil. The UK plans to work in coordination with the EU. This will significantly limit Russia's export opportunities to third countries.

The EU sanctions also affected the Russian financial system. Sberbank, as well as 2 other Russian and 1 Belarusian banks, were disconnected from SWIFT. The assets of 18 Russian legal entities involved in the war have been frozen.

In the area of trade, the new restrictions apply to a number of dual-use goods and 80 chemicals. Russia will also not be able to receive accounting, PR and consulting services from European companies.

The sixth package imposed individual sanctions on 65 people, including Alina Kabaeva, close to Putin. In addition, the activities of 3 propaganda media of the aggressor are now banned on the territory of the EU : RTR Russia and RTR Planeta, Russia 24, TV Center International.

The US has imposed a number of restrictions on individuals, companies and organizations

Thus, individual sanctions were imposed on 18 people, including Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharov and oligarch Alexei Mordashov and his family. The latter's companies, Severstal and Severgroup, also ended up on the sanctions list. The restrictions also affected a number of companies associated with Putin's inner circle, yachts and planes used by the Russian dictator.

70 Russian organizations were included in the list of regulations on “controlled export”. Without a license, they will not be able to purchase goods made in the USA or using American technology or software. The US Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) notes that there will be a "no exception policy" for licenses.

Taiwan extended its sanctions last week

From now on, the export of a number of high-tech goods, including modern microcircuits and microprocessors, is prohibited. Equipment for their manufacture will also not be sold.

New Zealand has imposed sanctions against 44 organizations that finance or support the war.

Latvia banned 80 audio and audiovisual programs, including their rebroadcasting.

Currently, 45% of the sanctions provided for by the Plan of the Yermak-McFaul Group have been applied against the Russian Federation. 19 out of 42 measures are in place, with 13 still lacking progress.
