Russia wants a change in Ukraine's political course, but we should not count on it.

Russia wrongly expects a pro-Russian leader to emerge in Ukraine in case of possible political changes, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said, adding that such expectations have no grounds.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the German broadcaster ARD.

The Russian side, according to the head of state, continues to assume that the situation in Ukraine may change so that a Moscow-oriented politician will be at the head of the country.

Zelensky noted that such assumptions looked simplistic and did not take into account the real moods within the Ukrainian society and the state.

In his opinion, such logic is based on a wrong understanding of how Ukrainian politics is organised and what values the country upholds today.

The President emphasised that even with various internal challenges, this does not mean a reversal of the state's course. He also made it clear that the scenario that Russia is counting on looks unlikely.

They have not lost the desire, in my opinion (to remove me - ed.). From what we understand. Although, how can we be so sure that if I am gone, a person who will be pro-Russian will come. You can say different things, there may be different challenges within the state, but who said that (the president - ed.) will be a man who will kiss Putin's arse? Hardly, Volodymyr Zelensky noted.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky approved the updated composition of the Ukrainian delegation that is negotiating with the European Union over an agreement on Ukraine's accession to the EU. Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka was appointed as the chief negotiator, who will coordinate the work of the delegation and represent the country's position in further dialogue with the European side.

Also, after the next round of trilateral talks in Geneva on ending the war, it became known about a possible summit meeting: presidents Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Vladimir Putin.
