Zelensky signs decree on preparations for Ukraine's EU accession negotiation process
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree "On some measures to prepare for the negotiation process on Ukraine's accession to the European Union".
This was reported on the website of the Office of the President.
It is noted that the purpose of the decree is to ensure the speedy implementation of the remaining recommendations of the European Commission for a positive decision by the EU leaders in December 2023.
The document is designed to ensure the implementation of the strategic course on gaining full membership of Ukraine in the European Union, the creation of conditions for effective political interaction and improvement of coordination of activities of state bodies in order to start the negotiation process on Ukraine's accession to the EU as soon as possible," the statement said.
According to the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers should initiate consultations with the European Commission in order to determine the organisational aspects of the negotiation process on Ukraine's accession to the EU. And also a draft law on the approval of a new National Programme for the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to the law of the European Union (EU acquis EU), taking into account the results of the official EU assessment (screening) of the state of implementation of the law of the European Union (EU acquis EU) in the national. legislation of Ukraine, etc. should be prepared and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.
In addition, Volodymyr Zelensky met with EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova. The EU ambassador provided the president with the European Commission's approved report on Ukraine's progress within the enlargement package in 2023.
